According to the 2015 – 2020 Dietary Guidelines report, 50% of American adults have one or more preventable chronic diseases, many that are related to poor quality eating patterns and physical inactivity. Approximately two-thirds of adults and nearly one-third of children and youths are overweight and obese. Obesity is one of the biggest threats to health and longevity. Physicians are required to talk about weight loss and nutrition. However, where do we start when there are so many diets to choose from? Does one diet work for everyone? This lecture is intended to provide an overview of the basic building blocks of nutrition and how these make up some of the most popular diets in the market.

Objectives:
1. Understand the building blocks of nutrition
2. Evaluate the different kinds of weight loss programs
3. Identify benefits and disadvantages of each weight loss program

A Review of the Management of Anxiety in the Primary Care Setting

Anxiety disorders are the most common psychiatric condition presenting to primary care practitioners.  Patients with anxiety disorders experience a decreased quality of life and benefit tremendously from effective management of their condition. This session will review the diagnosis and management of anxiety disorders in the primary care setting.

Objectives:

1. Differentiate the various anxiety disorders 
2. Identify practical screening tools for anxiety disorders in the primary care setting
3. Describe treatment strategies for anxiety disorders in the primary care setting
