In 1981, Charles Cottle became a member of the Chicago Boards Options Exchange (CBOE) and began his career trading in the General Motors Stock Options Pit. In 1983, he became a member of the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT), which is the world’s oldest options and futures exchange, and he traded in the Bond Options pit. In 1985, he became a member of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), and formed an alliance with the Shatkin Trading. He headed up a Multi-Exchange Options Market Maker Group. The group handled corn, soybeans, T-Notes and T-Bonds within the CBOT; EuroDollars, Deutsche Marks, Live Cattle and the S&P 500, with Options within the CME; and OEX Index and Options Trading within the CBOT.

By 1988, Charles had become the Vice-President and Head Floor Options Trader of Continental Bank.

In 1989, Charles became the Director of Instruction at the International Trade Institute, and was instrumental in the development of Trade$tar II, the on-line Market Simulator. When electronic trading was in its infancy, Charles trained Market Makers, Brokers and Programmers on the way to use this system.

1995 saw Charles write the book “Options, Perception and Deception” to train people to become professional Market Makers. The book is considered one of the definitive works on the subject. He launched RiskFixer Systems, a company that created Position Dissector Software for Risk Analysis. He also began offering his Risk Doctor Services, mentoring trading professionals in the complexities of derivatives.

In 1993, Charles co-founded ThinkOrSwim, Inc. , an Online brokerage firm specializing in Options. The firm was so successful, it was purchased by TD AmeriTrade. Until 2003, Charles was ThinkOrSwim’s personal Risk Doctor, mentoring clients and associate brokers on Hedging Strategies and other Option Position complexities. He also invented several Hybrid Hedges, including the Slingshot Hedge.

He further invented and patented DARTs (Dynamic Adjustable Risk Transactions).

In 2005, he officially launched RiskDoctor.com, and has been helping traders learn the complexities of the industry ever since.
